One More

If I could say one more thing

Or look one more time

Or laugh at one more joke

Or roll my eyes again

Or hold your hand

Or hear your voice

Or say I’m sorry

Or say thank you

Or just be in the same room

Or look at the same moon

Or cry on your shoulder

Or let you cry on mine

I’d give all I have to give.

I’d give my life

I’d give anything.

For one more.

My Father

My Father

The miracle that was you,

The wonderful father breaking through

All barriers of heaven and hell

to defend those you loved so well.

Down that long and difficult road

of love, family , and country, unbowed.

You continued, strong as steel.

Till time, as she often does, revealed

your worth to all who gazed upon,

perfect masculinity that shone of brawn.

In your final hour, you met life head on,

as always I’ve known you’ve done.

Loving, laughing, caring and strong,

you were always my hero, my father, my song.

I breathe sadness at your absence each day

It gets harder not easier as I go my way.

But I’m reminded of your gifts

As I wake up to the shining sun

You’re still here beside me, loving me

through each tear, one by one.
